A Note From the Editor

I'm not sure why I fell so hard for Anne's writing. In many ways, we could not have been more different. I spent my childhood sheltered in the folds of the conservative midwest, the daughter of a pastor; Anne spent hers exploring the coast of California, the daughter of a writer and a politically-left socialite.

Still, Lamott's transparency and humor gripped me. In fact, she became something of a literary mother, modeling for me how to hold onto grace and laughter as I wrote. (Reviewers even guessed she was an influence on my new memoir, Picking Dandelions: A Search for Eden Among Life's Weeds.)

I created this page as a resting point for Anne Lamott fans like myself; for people who need an Anne fix while waiting for her next book to be released (April 2010). I hope you enjoy your stay. And don't forget to bookmark us and come back soon!

Many blessings,
Sarah

Anne's New Book Makes the New York Times Best Seller List

Anne's name has graced best seller's list since 1993 when she released Operating Instructions, her "real life" manual of sorts on parenting an infant without strangling them. Between then and now, the New York Times' list has gotten pretty familiar with Anne, having to make room for her three novels, three spiritual memoirs and off-beat writing guide.

You can read about Anne's new title's inclusion on the New York Times' list here or check out NPR's list here.

Anne Lamott: Impromptu Expert on Teens and Drugs?

As you may know by now, Anne's new book, Imperfect Birds, chronicles the teenage journey of Rosie--a character who has been drawing Anne's spotlight since Rosie, the book named after her.

The book follows a straight-A student who is secretly delving into drugs, which has added some new topics to Anne's usually funny and quirky public readings. Now, in addition to picking up writing tips and faith advice, parents want to know how Anne advises them to fight the substances that undergird their teenager's lives.

You can read an interview with Anne along these lines in the San Francisco Chronicle, check out this drug-related review at the New York Times, or read some of the ongoing discussion on the issue, which cites Anne's new book.
